Thanks to Chesapeake Horse Fans!

Last night, the Tidewatwer Horse Council graciously sponsored an educational seminar at the Indian River Library in Chesapeake, Virginia wherein I presented information about Virginia’s Equine Activity Liability Act to the attendees.
Next month, the Virginia Horse Council will host its Annual Meeting and Educational Seminar at Colonial Downs in New Kent, VA, on Saturday, March 13, 2010, [...]

Equine Law? Animal Law? What are they?

The question I often receive pertaining to my practice of equine law is “What exactly is the practice of equine law?” Equine law is more of an industry niche in the practice of law that services the equine community in general. As an avid horsewoman, combining the practice of law and my passion for horses [...]

Thanks to My Dressage Friends in Fredericksburg

Last August 13th, the Fredericksburg Chapter of the Virginia Dressage Association graciously sponsored an educational seminar at the Salem Church Library in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I presented a seminar on Virginia’s Equine Liability Act to the attendees.

Virginia Derby By A Nose

If you were not able to attend the Virginia Derby July 18 at Colonial Downs in New Kent County, you missed a wonderful time. I was in a skybox with a crowd attending our firm’s annual client event on the day of  the race. Even with the scratching of Nicanor, brother to Barbaro who won the [...]

Check out the Virginia Derby (and more)

Tomorrow I’ll be at Colonial Downs with folks from our law firm, clients and friends enjoying the Virginia Derby and other races at the big New Kent County facility just off Interstate 64. Current favorite Nicanor is a surprise choice, and I’ll be interested to see how he does in his sixth race.

One month until the Virginia Derby

Perhaps the most enjoyable thoroughbred event in Virginia annually is the running of the Virginia Derby, always the third weekend in July (July 18 this year) at  Colonial Downs Racetrack in New Kent County.

Horse Sense

A friend of mine who blogs at NCLawLife.com sent me a link to a really interesting article this week, which you can read here. The premise makes sense to me. Who wouldn’t be able to learn something from a horse? I learn something new almost every time I am in the saddle. Not to mention [...]

Risks? What Risks?

We have all heard the age old adage of ‘safety first’. This adage especially rings true when it comes to the horse industry.  If you ride, as I do, you probably have your own checklist of safety items that you simply wouldn’t mount without. For me, my number one safety item is always my helmet.
For [...]

Off to the Races

Even as a young kid, I knew I belonged on the back of a horse. As you can see from this picture, (yes…that is me on Black Jack), I could barely see from under the visor of my helmet, and my legs couldn’t reach the stirrup irons.
